Spiritual Discernment is the practice of tending and attending the part of you that is most tuned in to God’s purpose in your life. By examining your gifts, passions, life experiences, nudges, and even your frustrations, you may come to know what you are for. Christian Spirituality offers many practices (accessible to persons along a broad spectrum of belief and practice) for deep listening for these divine nudges, and also some tests to discern whether an idea is a leading (part of your larger calling) or just an idea. Often times, this work is best done with compassionate companionship.
Please join us for a no-fee potluck and conversation about Spiritual Discernment. In addition to introducing some practices, our speaker will explore with those gathered the possibility of starting some Companion Groups for on-going discernment and introduce her Ministry of Companionship (spiritual direction). Jennie Isbell is a trained Quaker Spiritual Director (Haden Institute) in a program that focused on Jungian understandings and dreamwork. She has a deeply incarnational understanding of how God works in the world and a persistent concern for helping individuals and groups find the intersections between faith and daily life, a.k.a. spirituality and embodiment.
She is a registered yoga teacher, yoga therapist, massage therapist, Thai bodyworker, Reiki master, and has an extensive background in leading workshops and retreats. Her M.Div. studies focused on topics related to spirituality and the body. She has taught Metaphor and Mechanics (embodied wisdom workshop of yoga and journaling), yoga for chronic low back pain, Dreamwork, practicing Personal Presence about contemplative practices, and more-all reweaving the connection between spirit and body. The Gathering Inn: A Women’s Spiritual Center and Retreat House is located at 82 Healdville Road, Hubbardston, MA, 01452. It is a non- profit organization (501(3)(c)) that exists to nurture the reconnection of women with their own spiritual grounding, apart from the busyness and distractions of the world.
